new light for the 75G
I am wondering if someone could suggest to me a new lighting fixture for our 75G? Right now we have been making use of a 36" fixture with one MH in the center and it just doesn't look right. I am so unfamiliar with everything in the hobby yet, and don't even know what brand is good for fixture or bulbs. Any suggestions are always appreciated!

Do you want halides or T5's? Four foot tank right?

Yes, a 48" tank. I think I want a two halide setup. Not sure though...I'm open to suggestions

You looking to keep really high light stuff? 150's would work, 250's would be better but hotter and more electricity. Either way you are looking at $400-$800 into a fixture probably. Do you want actinic bulbs as well for dawn/dusk? I have the Aqualight Pro over my tank right now. You could do two pendants as well instead of a 48" fixture. Or look at a retrofit setup, save a little money. I would hit up TCMAS hardcore and hope someone sells off a used one myself but I'm cheap.

Re: new light for the 75G
personally I would go with T5's, I have never had halides but they do consume a lot of electricity. I have read on TCMAS where people are getting rid of halides to go T5.even in an SPS dominated tank. It is all up to you and what you like.T5 bulbs last twice as long as halides if not longer. Give SWE a call and see what they got.

The nice thing about T5's is the options you have with bulb combos. Also, less heat and the bulbs last longer. You can keep most anything under T5's. Mary & Dustin told me this weekend they even keep clams under theirs.

Great suggestion MN reef crzy, but it is sold already I'm going to check into something like that though...both t5's and MH, sound like a nice fixture that I could grow just about anything under.

You loose the shimmer when you dont have halides. I was a big supporter of t5's there for a bit but am a halide guy now again, i just prefer how it looks and know that i can keep anything under them.

The shimmer is nice. I'll give that to those halide people. Vishnu built a halide light for just over $50. I printed it out a while ago but it's hard to share how when I have it on paper. Too bad JimDReef went down.
