reefer's pet peeves..what's yours?
Got any reef related things that irk you? I bet there are some funny ones in our world.
A few I can think of:
I just had this happen. You know how the API water test kits have those tubes? Step one is filling them with tank water to the line. You fill one up with water. Too much. Dump some out. Not enough. Put some in. Too much. Dump some out.... Am I the only one who plays this dumb game?
Why can't they make plastic gloves that work? The blue and orange ones with the too long fingers are thick and you can't feel anything. You end up knocking things over...or I do anyway. The other option is the thin orange ones that fill up with water. What good did that do? I guess they do protect a reefer from pirahna clownfish though.
You go to move a coral and knock the rock out of place and it turns into a three hour reaquascape sesh. Actually, once I get into it, I usually kind of enjoy it but that first incident....
Come on. I know you guys have got some good ones. Let's hear 'em.

Re: reefer's pet peeves..what's yours?
My first pet peeve is those pirahnna clownfish. I have a very small volitan lion fish in the same tank as the much larger clown pair. So.. as I was doing the also irritating re re rockscaping something stung my hand. I whipped my arm out thinking I'd been hit by the lion, but it was only the clowns. Man can they bite!
Number two, is how fast that water evaporates. I know there are ways to keep it topped off, but the point is how fast it goes.
Number three, jumping fish. I have found that saltwater fish follow the same rule as koi.... the more valuable you are, the higher arc you can jump. ie. out of the tank.
Plenty more. We should keep track of the top five or ten.

1. People calling fish "Nemo Fish" or "Dory Fish" when coming over to my house
2. They notice the hermits before the corals and more expensive stuff
3. I agree on the API test kits...
4. People who come over to buy coral and expect you to give it to them for next to nothing, even on a day when it is the first time you have met the person...
5. Leaky voltage that like to shock you when you aren't expecting it

I dont really remember what I did not like but for the API thing get yourself a 5ml syringe cause that is the amount of water is in them tubes for testing.

I had a feeling that was coming. If I did that, then what would I have to complain about? LOL
CD - Good call on the hermits. Why are they always the first thing people notice. It's so annoying!

Not being able to get the middle bracing on the tank clear. Drives me nuts.

That reminds me of another. Not being able to reach something because of the middle brace on the tank. LOL

Mushrooms, grow spread and kill nice peaceful corals. Plus 1 on all the above. Turbo sewer snails if they die and fall behind things you cannot reach. Loosing the mate of a mated pair. Grrr

I have this really really awesome plating coral.....
Except its a branching SPS that I keep knocking the branches off of. I swear.. EVERY TIME I put my hands in the tank, something gets knocked over.

Taking a "frag" off of a colony only to have the whole thing break into pieces. The worst case of this that I have witnessed was back when Andre had his tank up and running and was going to take a piece of his gigantic candy cane off. The huge coral colony all of sudden became many small ones in front of our very eyes.
