Bought a couple new fish!
Got the Diver's Den email and just couldn't resist, spent way more than I wanted to but oh well. Ordered a flame hawk pair and a magnificent foxface, now cross your fingers they make it here alive and well, I hate ordering in winter! Pics are in my gallery if you want to check them out. They will be here hopefully Thursday, I asked them to push it back a day so I can be home. Not that James can't handle acclimating but I like to be here to get them.

Re: Bought a couple new fish!
3 new fish all together. I'm hoping adding a few at once will confuse the trigger so he doesn't pick on anybody but these fish should all hold their own anyways. I'm excited, it's been a long time since I added fish.

I'm sure they will all hide for a week so it may be a while before in tank pictures. I will see if James will take a bucket or acclimating shot though. My schedule got changed again so I work Thursday now, if I'd have known that I would have had them shipped normally and get here tomorrow. Oh well.

Re: Bought a couple new fish!
Well everybody made it alive, now for hoping they stay that way. My trigger has made a couple alarming run attacks at the hawkfish so far, I am dumping in food to distract him and hopefully he will settle down, he doesn't seem at interested in tussling with the foxface but they are the same size. The one flame is small, smaller than my gramma even.

Re: Bought a couple new fish!
Had a little scare, the smaller hawkfish tried perching on my modded mag powerhead and almost got chewed up, really glad I have those on a switch so they can be off in a hurry, not sure if he is just too small to handle that kind of flow or if he's weak. Hopefully he learned his lesson and stays away!

I guess they are hit or miss, I've read a few people had problems with them eating zoas, kind of like angelfish I think, I'll be sad if he eats my zoas but my trigger is just as much of a risk.
Even my gramma is picking on the hawkfish! I thought with two of them and their attitudes they woudl stand up for themselves.
All the fish need fattening up though, my trigger looks like a whale compared to these guys. LiveAquaria sent a pack of Instant Ocean's new gel food with the fish shipment, I tried out some and it's a hit so I will pick some more up, it doesn't need to be frozen or refrigerated which is super handy I think. Hadn't even heard of it before today though and can't find any reviews on it.

Yeah, I do think it helped that I added multiple fish at once, I will do the same next time I get some fish and just only add fish over 3" I think. Any smaller is just a little too risky, we'll see when the lights go on if everybody's still kicking, the foxface is swimming around but can't find the hawks yet.

I LOVE that my new camera does videos, I might post some of the hawks if I can get them to swim around a little.

Pinktail, him and the foxface did a ton of displaying at each other today, very interesting to watch. I tried to get a video of that but naturally the second the camera comes out they stop.

Why do you think I sold all my nice stuff off and kept the small stuff in my nano? I like reefs but just not a big fan of the "reef safe" fish options. I am really enjoying the fish side of saltwater now, before all my tanks were too small for all the fish we wanted. Still figuring out what more we will add to this tank, probably a dwarf angel or puffer and a wrasse but so many to choose from.

Re: Bought a couple new fish!
Dan i would not even be worried about coral like i would be as for your inverts, and snails. they would all be dead. I want to know how people have pairs of blue throats and stuff in reef tanks without total devastation. I am assuming it is like anything else keep it fed well and it will leave stuff alone "maybe".

Yeah, most of the snails I bought at the swap didn't make it and mine was grabbing all the dead ones and smashing the shells to eat them, leaves the live ones alone so far though. James was freaking out because he didn't know what he was dragging around the tank.
