Do you think that it would look alright if I used a 24 inch long light over a 30 inch long tank?

Well what I was trying to say was would the light reach to the edges of the tank by time it got to the bottom?

What kind of light and how deep is the tank? Are you hanging it over or is it on legs?

It is a 4 bulb T5HO and the tank is 18" deep. I will hang it over the tank.

Should be fine, I've seen a few T5 setups that are shorter than the tank and yours is a pretty shallow tank, will be darker on the sides but can't imagine it would be that bad.

Thanks. Could I put low light corals on the edge? What kind of bulbs should I get and what order should I place them in starting from the front?

This site has some T5 info and bulb suggestions, I checked it out when I was considering it.

Low light stuff should be fine on the sides, most softies and certain lps for sure.

If you have the fixture already, go fo it. I purchased a 36" for my 48" tank and regret it!!! Probably more so because the MH is right in the middle of the tank on the 36" fixture and is right where the support brace is on the tank so I am constantly moving it so that each part of the tank gets good lighting...
