Brennen's reef tank Empty Brennen's reef tank

Post by Minnesotareefjunkie Sat Jan 24, 2015 5:26 pm

Hello, I am Brennen.  I have lived in Duluth all my live.  About 3 years ago I started a saltwater tank.  I started with a 8 gallon nano tank and graduated to a 30 gallon tank which is now my QT tank in my bedroom closet. My current 75 gallon tank (95g system) is screaming to be upgraded due to some extreme coral growth.  When I move into my next house I plan to build a 300-375 gallon display tank system.  I love colorful SPS corals.  They are my addiction.  When I began this hobby I can honestly say I made many mistakes and have learned a great deal from them.  I have experimented with many different forms of filtration and lighting.  I began with just live rock and then graduated to a sump with macro algae.  After that I dabbled with bio pellets and now am using the zeovit method.  All systems have there pro's and cons.  Anyways I herd there was a local reef club and I figured I would check it out.  I have many sps frags and corals which maybe some of you collectors are interested in.  Ill post some tank shots and coral shots feel free to leave me some feedback.

Pardon the PVC cup in the sand bed and the leather I had to do some re arranging corals were growing into each other and that cup was holding many frags at the time that needed to be glued down.

Great tank. There are lots of us that upgrade as we go. I had two 50 gallon salt waters back in the day of dead white corals and under gravel filters. Anyway now I have a 58 with a 120 and a 75 waiting for spring set up. I am into the soft corals and zoas. I love the colors and mostly because they grow great for me.
Welcome and hope to see you sometime

Beautiful corals, and yeah, you need a way bigger tank! I'm getting closer to setting up my 65 gal and in the meantime have a 17 gal with a pair of very large fat watchman gobies and a cleaner shrimp. Lots of macro algae and some softies. Still thinking of what route I want to take with the display tank. My sump set up will be about 3 times as large as the 65. Odd, but that is what I have.

I wish acros and others grew for me. I have one and it seems to be a slow grower or the rest of you fugdging on the growth rate of yours. Lol. So glad you have joined us and I'm glad to see someone else who likes a coralline background.
One question, for sale of discussion, is that a Potters Angel?

I use to have slower growth rates until I really cracked down on water parameters. I run a low Kh ca and mg with low nitrate and phosphate both under 0.05 this with 2 radion and a metal halide  which just this week I swapped for a new gen 3 pro. Some corals grow much faster than others bird nest for example grows insanely fast were my red planet has grown much slower.  Certain stag colonies have grown very quickly as well I think the environment is a huge contributing factor.  I also do feed the corals various things like rotifers red sea reef energy pohls xtra and coral vitalizer. You are correct the angel is potters, I've had it for about a year and a half very neat looking fish. This was my first angrlfish, I think they from hati. He gets along well with my juvenile emp im raising for my next build there very expensive as adults.

The first picture looks like a fresh painting. It looks amazing and I am thrilled with all the diversity you got in there. Smile
