REEF CAMP 2013 - Classic Rock
MARK YOUR CALENDAR
What: Reef Camp - "Classic Rock"
Who: NMRC, LSMAC and RRVR members
When: Friday, July 26th to Sunday, Sunday July 28th - come for the whole time, come for the day or come and go...up to you
Where: Blennieluvr's (pm me if you need directions)
Why: Because it's going to be FUN!!!
More details will come but I wanted to get this much out there.
SO...what is Reef Camp?
REEF = A lot and I mean, a lot of fish talk! Tell the spouses to be prepared for that.
So far, we've got these ideas in the planning stages:
rock making
acid bathing rock
aquascape tips
aquascape contest
CAMP = There will also be fishing, swimming, maybe biking, campfire, sauna... We have a canoe we can share. We do not have a lot of lake toys yet but you're welcome to the canoe and the beach is sandy! We've a dock that the family has caught pan fish off of! You bring your camping gear (or just come for the day). You bring your own food, camp chairs, bicycles (I'm about 3 miles from the bike trail), fishing gear, etc. There will be a potluck lunch Saturday so bring something to share for that. Blennie will provide smore fixins and other campfire treats for the evenings. Bring the family along. All are welcome.
It would be great if someone were willing to help demo. Maybe you've done some of that stuff before or maybe you're willing to learn about it and share. I don't want to do all the talking and we all know, I am NO expert!
If you have other suggestions for stuff we can do around our "Classic Rock" theme (like a big hair contest?), I'm open to ideas!!
We're charging a small fee for camping ($10 a night and $20 if you want to use electricity). This fee will allow you a spot for your tent or camper and the use of our cabin which provides you with bathroom, shower and kitchen facilities.
I hope you'll consider joining us for a fun mix of MN outdoors and the reef hobby!

Re: REEF CAMP 2013 - Classic Rock
Oh man this sounds like a fun get together. I would love to come down for a day if I can, not looking too promising right now, 2 people leaving asap from my summer job so we are going to be screwed for time off but maybe they will get someone decent hired quick.

Re: REEF CAMP 2013 - Classic Rock
I am willing to do rock forming if needed. Also I volunteer to make Rockin' Silk Scarves. Participants can dye their own scarf in any colors except pure red or black. We could experiment with stamping fish images on the scarf and then overdying. I sell these scarves for $10 at my art shows, but no charge for Reef Campers, excepting listening with rapt attention to stories about my pet pig, Rowdy. Faking interest is acceptable.
Rock On!

Re: REEF CAMP 2013 - Classic Rock
I have room at my place if you want to connect and RV. No bathroom facilites though. You'd have to fight your way through the dogs and the piglet, who has now decided he's a guard pig. Lots of space though and we could hook you up to electricity and water with no problem. Same rates as Blennie to be added to the Camp fund.

Re: REEF CAMP 2013 - Classic Rock
Sue is going to make rock with us Friday eve. She has also graciously offered to make silk scarves with us.
Would anyone be willing to do the acid bath demo and/or show some aquascaping tips? I don't think it would be as fun if I was doing all the talking and I'm no expert on any of these subjects anyway. Someone could just pick an item and research it before that weekend and share what they've learned even!
I have a feeling I'm going to be sort of busy just hosting the event so it would be nice to have help with our projects. Thanks for considering your part in the fun!

Re: REEF CAMP 2013 - Classic Rock
If I can get away that weekend I could bring my tub and do a Acid bath Demo, but that weekend my son is talking of having Gwens Birthday at the lake and I can't miss that my Family would kill me.I should find out more of there plans by next week. They've only none I've been planning to go to this Reef camp for ever
Re: REEF CAMP 2013 - Classic Rock
BUMP.
I'd like to get an idea of how many are coming. I know the Bemidji gals will be here during the day but not camping. If we only have a couple coming from out of town, you're welcome to use the cabin. It will be really casual but we'll still make rock, acid bath rock and talk about aquascaping.
If you plan to be there Saturday, please let us know what you will bring for potluck lunch at 1:00.

Re: REEF CAMP 2013 - Classic Rock
I think one day is going to be long enough for this event. However, if you want to stay overnight, you're certainly still welcome to. We'll just do the rock making and the acid bath stuff all on Saturday starting at 10:00 and then have a potluck lunch. We can do all the swimming, etc. still as well.

Re: REEF CAMP 2013 - Classic Rock
No Friday then? I think all day Saturday will be great. The rocks can set all day. Scarf dyeing won't take too long. It takes more time to decide on colors than it takes to make one. I think I'll bring parmesan chicken "fingers" as my lionfish ate the rest of the chicken. i'm in a chicken mood, so I'll bring some of that buffalo chicken dip too. We're addicted to it at work.

Noooo. He got raw shrimp. But a month ago, he quit eating. He'd strike at a piece, but his mouth wouldn't open wide enough to take it in. Even when I cut it very verry small he's strike but not eat. I checked his gills and mouth to look for blockage or scar tissue and found nothing. He finally expired a few days later. I'm not sure what happened, other than he starved.

Sorry for all you that couldn't make it. It was such a good time. We dyed silk scarves and made our rock (thanks to Sue, our MVR for the day, most valuable reefer!!) and gave some rock an acid bath. We also had delish food, the kids swam and there were some fish caught too!
