Dream fish list challange
New game...I want your dream lists. If you had $250.00 to spend at
Live Aquaria, how would you spend it. Rules: keep in mind that this is
for a reef system with corals, and fish cannot cause harm to them, so
no triggers or angels. Size isn't an issue, this is for a 210 gallon
aquarium.
Have fun, and I look forward to your lists.

Re: Dream fish list challange
What's wrong with Angels in a reef tank (OK, that's perhaps another thread to disagree on). Personally, the fish I'm looking for have never been in the Diver's Den ever (Synchiropus circularis and Rudarius minutus) but both species should fall in easily for $250 for a couple pairs....
Other things I'd consider around that price range if I was thinking off...say...a larger reef tank than I personally own - A pair of Bellus Angelfish (Genicanthus bellus), or maybe a pair of Blue Throat Triggerfish (yes, they are pretty much reef safe). Or I'd buy up a whole school of Threadfin/Longspine/Bluestreak Cardinalfish (Apogon leptacanthus)...or a group of Fathead Anthias (Serranocirhittus latus)....
FWIW,
Matt

Re: Dream fish list challange
I think it would be great to have a goby/shrimp pair. I see them advertised/sold together, but what I read says although retailers sell them together, there is no guarantee they will "bond', and in fact if the goby doesn't appear to be thriving the shrimp will kill them.
So.. if a person wanted to try something like a goby/shrimp combo get one first and then the other?

Re: Dream fish list challange
no matter how you do it, it's a crap shoot. Best bet is to get a pair that have been collected together from the wild.

Re: Dream fish list challange
I have a sps reef and have angel fish what is wrong with that??? As long as your tank is growing fast who cares, pretty fish. I come home sometimes and they nail some things but it all grows back within a day or two and it happens so randomly and not often that i dont care, flame angel likes the tyree war coral the most though i would say. I would really like a pair of blue throat triggers as matt said but my tank, i would say is not big enough.

Re: Dream fish list challange
If i were doing it, not sure if id use blue zoo, id go with Fire Fish, a few blue damsels (the ones that are not that mean) green cromis, regal tang ,yellow tang, flame angel, blue throat trigger (i'm wanting one for my tank right now but cant afford) some basseletts maybe some golbies but not clown or citron they are to small and maybe some scotter blennies and other blennies then maybe a few other things like a blue star fish and some more clean up crue with a different varity of snails and crabs things that make kids look for. dont know how that adds up to 250 but i know it does not take long.

Re: Dream fish list challange
Any of the Genicanthus sp. are sexually dichromatic, easy to pair up, more active / free swimming, and utterly reef safe (they're plankton feeders in nature). Centropyge have this reputation for being problem fish, but I genuinely thing that comes from folks who don't feed their fish enough...hungry fish are far more apt to nip. I've had Flames, Coral Beauty's and Pygmys all in reefs with a wide range of corals from Zoos to SPS and even clams..no issues from the angelfish, so long as they are well fed. But the *most* reef safe are the Genicanthus. Now here's a though, your money can go really far with Genicanthus lamark...you could literally get a harem (4-5) going in the tank. Or perhaps the Spotchest / Zebra / Swallowtail (G. melanospilus). At any rate, you can get all females and the largest/most dominant will become a male.
Anyway, here's some links:

you did say dream...
I just hope for no suicidal vicious fish. Preferably tank bred.
