my new tank is crashing
well lets see here everything was going jus great and this morning i was lookin at my tank and i realized it was milkie so i check my sump and the protien skimmer wasnt running. than i saw smoke coming from a cord and it was the cord to the protien skimmer. in a spot half of the cord was melted open and the cord was gone itself... it is all rusted and melted, and it was hanging over the sump, so is there anyway some kind of acid substance got into the tank or something like that?? As of right now, everything (except the fish) looks dead! I did a 20 gallon water change, and will probably do another 20 tomorrow. Does anyone have any idea what happened???

WoW that is odd. I bet the cord was bad to start with. Like a small hole in it or somthing like that. I think you'r right about some acid dripping in to the sump. If you have Carbon run it now ASAP. The W/C will help to.

Lots of fresh carbon, if you can get polyfilter that would be good as well. Get that water mixing, if you have corals still kicking maybe throw them in a bucket with good water overnight, better than the tank if it's going downhill, all they need is a heater and powerhead. Good luck.
