A DIY tip that has been helpful for me: keep your old transformers. The "wall warts" that power cordless phones, radios, larger chargers, etc. When I get rid of electronics that use transformers I keep the transformer and wires. All transformers are marked with the voltage and amperage they supply. I used multiple transformers from my stash in my last tank build to power cooling fans and led lights. Make sure the voltage matches up (usually 12 volts) and that the transformers supplies enough amps. This usually isn't an issue, fans and leds don't take a lot of power. If the plugs don't match up just cut them off and attach the wires directly. The truelumen led moonlights plugged directly into a transformer that used to be for an aquavu camera, which saved me $10.
