Receding tissue chalice

Anyone run into this?  The coral is otherwise healthy looking but has started to recede around the edges.  The "skirt" around the chalice is all new growth, so I am surprised that it is having problems.  There are a few leathers in the tank, but they have been in there the whole time the chalice has been there.  The leathers are bigger now, maybe they are big enough to cause problems.  Two toadstools, one yellow leather.

Yeah something is irritating that section, it doesn't seem to take much to piss off chalices, trim that leather back and see if it grows over.

What is right next to the chalice on this side?

That's a yellow leather. The tissue is receding the most in the area next to it, but it is also happening all the way around. I hate to remove the leather, but it is the most likely culprit. i think I'll start by changing the carbon, and maybe changing the flow in the tank a little. I might be able to move the leather a little farther away, but the tank is pretty tight.

I would say it's your Leather doing it to your Chalice.

Update: The chalice continued to recede, and the leather was spending more time looking unhappy than ever before. Both are nice pieces so I was reluctant to move either of them. I finally caved and pulled the leather out of the tank and put it in my 10 gal QT, which has cycled sponges in a HOB filter. A standard PC fixture. The leather has looked perfect ever since, has not withdrawn since the initial movement. So, as near as I can figure, something in the tank was making the leather distressed, which was putting out chemicals which distressed the chalice, and I believe it also killed a candy cane. They seem sensitive to leathers in this tank. So one of them will end up in the 75 when it is ready, hopefully the leather survives okay in the QT.

Is the chalice looking better now?

It's only been a few days. Hopefully it grows back out and covers the exposed skeleton.

The tissue had receded back to the original heads and was not improving, so I cut off all exposed skeleton plus a little tissue. This was a few days ago. As long as I was cutting I also cut a couple frags off.

I hope it recovers fully now. It's a super nice chalice!

Did you try dipping it at all? I don't know how much those help but at some point gotta try anything. Hopefully it recovers or a frag will make it, I hate losing stuff!
