So in my tank build thread I posted some pictures of a jewelry box I made. Well I didn't take pictures of the finished product, however I have some of a different one I made. This one took me a span of 3 days to complete from the first cut to handing it over to my mom. There is about 20 hours of work into this piece. Enjoy! Comments are always welcome Smile

The inlay is neat, what is the process for something like that?

Yeah I'd like to know the process for getting the heart in there so nice. I am betting parience and a steady hand, but still have to ask.

First I found an image on google of a heart. I printed it and then cut out the heart shaped piece of paper. Then I traced the heart onto my piece of wood that I am then going to inlay. I cut that heart shape out and get it how I want it with some sanding. Then I placed the wood heart shape onto my lid and traced it. I can no longer sand my heart cut out, otherwise it won't fit right. Then with my router and an 1/8" straight bit I cut out the inlay as close to the traced out lines. Then by hand I chiseled out what I couldn't get with my router. Then it was a matter of gluing and tapping it into place then sanding it flush. So to sum it up. From paper outline, to wood outline, to wood recess, to final placement. So yes, patience and a steady hand with a chisel

very nice work! I figured that is how it would have to be done but it just looks so perfect.

Thank You! You can actually buy templates and bushings and all sorts of things to do inlay work with, but they are pretty expensive. I also think this yields a better result too.
