Post by Reefer Mon Jan 04, 2010 9:37 am

Does anybody know how to get rid of cyno bacteria(the red slime)? I have had my tank set up for about 4 to 5 moths and i just had a big spike in my tank of it. I am turning my tank about 21 times per hour. Thanks, Reefer

They make a red slime remover but I would try and suck it out when you do water changes.

Chemi-clean is the best for it.

chemi clean by boyd is the only thing that i have seen work for tuff strains of this bacteria. I fought it for a year before i tried and it removed it within 24 hours and a 25% water change at the end.

I got rid of my problems with it by leaving the lights out for three days. It never came back. You need to be careful when you turn the lights back on to not have them on for as long as usual for a few days, or you'll stress out your corals, and it takes a few weeks to recover from that, IME.
