Mystery coral Empty Mystery coral

Post by seaponygirl Tue Sep 18, 2012 10:17 am

I posted earlier, a new "coral" that appeared in my tank. As you may or may not remember, it has just appeared on on old dead piece of coral. After a bit of research it looks like an amber colored candy cane with neon green short tentacles evenly spaced aroung the sides. Or maybe a duncan, or a young torch coral. I see now that a second one has started just below it. The fish swim by it and touch it with no apparent ill effects. I'm still looking for more authoritive suggestions.
Thanks

Maybe it's a majano anemone? Do a google search and see if it looks like those pictures. You don't want those in your tank if that's what it is. They'll sting corals.

Touch it, is there a hard skeleton? Does it retract at night? It sounds like maybe a pest anemone, aiptasia or majano.

I can't get it to paste here but I found a picture of a majano for reference.

The mystery continues. Nope it's not a majono. Mine has very pointy tentacles that are phosphorescent green. from what I've read the majono has blunt ended tentacles. Mine looks the most like a giant green anemone.
I just received my shipment of peppermint shrimp, a green goby, and a mandaring, plus a bottle copepods and another GIANT clam, Clammo too. LOL. Wish me luck on the mandarin. I am working on the pictures, I don't have a home computer, but maybe my brother will help.
