Re: 2012 Frag Swap date set
That sounds super, GP. The more we get, the more we'll raise, I suppose. I'm thinking even if every club member brings one nice piece, that would be awesome!

UPDATE: It sounds like we'll have give aways for attendees of the swap in addition to all the other fun stuff we have going on already!

Re: 2012 Frag Swap date set
We've been working, working.... Here's an update.
A couple of us met with the HSC and they suggested we use the downstairs back room for our speaker presentations. It seats 50. I'm not sure that will be enough? But, it is a better set up for us than upstairs and we don't have to compete with the noise of the HSC patrons so we'll probably give it a shot. That means we'd need volunteers to be security people for the trading floor during the speaker time. These would have to be people who don't mind missing the speakers. I'm guessing most vendors will want to stay with their stuff but I still think an extra few people will be good especially since the HSC venue leaves us open to walk ins.
I am working with Travis from Fargo who agreed to be our emcee! YEAH! I stink at stuff like that so it's a huge help for our event for him to step up.
I have heard back from a few vendors for raffle prizes and give aways but I'm sure we'll get a few more of those as well. Please let me know if you plan to donate so I can plan for it...room in the raffle tank, etc.
One big project now is paper stuffs - signage, schedules for attendees, thank you's, info sheets for walk in newbs (we're thinking of offering a reefing 101 after the swap some time).
I'm sure you'll see more presale threads now that the Christmas holiday is past. I was glad to see Ocean's Paradise start posting stuff. We want everyone to know this is really going to happen!
We've got the duties covered for the most part. I just wanted to get an update to everyone regarding what's going on with the event and remind ya'll to spread the word and consider donating a coral or two or any equipment you may not need. Also, we may need to borrow a light for our raffle tank. I'll know more later in the week.

Re: 2012 Frag Swap date set
UPDATE:
I am changing the location of the swap. It will be at Beltrami Electric Cooperative, the same location as the first one for those of you that were involved. Let me know if you passed out flyers, emailed them and/or posted them up somewhere and I'll get you the updated one to replace them with.
We'll give the HSC notices to give the anyone who didn't get the location change so they will be redirected to BEC. Since the first hour is social time, they'll have a cushion to get to the event in time for the good stuff.
We are renting the community room for only $20. Moving the event solves several issues for us. We will have plenty of parking, vendors can unload right at the front door which is very close to and on the same level as the room we're having the event in. We won't have to worry about the noise of all the HSC patrons or walk ins that havent' a clue what we're all about.
It will mean that we all need to help reinforce NO BUYING, TRADING OR SWAPPING until the designated time (2:30 - 4:30) and especially not during the speaker presentations.
I know it's not too long before the event but I am breathing a huge sigh of relief from making this change. It makes the planning much simpler.

Re: 2012 Frag Swap date set
I know. That was one drawback. I had hoped it wouldn't deter people with kids to the point of not coming. Sorry!

One thought, if you have another adult with you, they and your kids could still take in the HSC while you are attending our swap!

If you bring the kids to eat at the swap lunch and can drive them over to HSC, I will look for someone to keep an eye on them there. They will have a good time and I can let you know in a couple of days. I hate to see anynone miss this, and HSC is a perfect place for kids to hang out.

Re: 2012 Frag Swap date set
My daughter will watch kids at the Science Center during the swap. I told her to be there at 11:30 and she's bringing at least one friend. Please let me know if you plan to take advantage of this service so we know how many girls we'll need. We'll give them $20 and hope that if you bring your kids, you would consider throwing in a few bucks too.

ANOTHER ANNOUNCEMENT:
This may have been mentioned previously but Icereefer will have equipment there to do some on the spot fragging. Please take advantage of this service.
Also, the frozenocean club owns a hannah phosphate checker. We'll have it at the swap and Tinkerman will assist with checking your water samples for you. Please consider a $1 donation to help cover the cost of the reagents for each sample tested.

Re: 2012 Frag Swap date set
HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT:
For those of you coming to the swap, thanks to Dirk Griffin, one of our vendors who is helping promote the event, we get to raffle off a full pass to none other than MACNA 2012!!!! MACNA is the largest (and oldest) saltwater conference and from what I have heard, is well worth the effort to get there. If you didn't go in 2011 when it was right "on our doorstep" and are regretting it (like me), here's your 2nd chance! Also, remember to stop by Dirk's booth Saturday and thank him for his part in getting us this awesome raffle prize! Right now, a full pass would cost $110 which is an early bird price. Last year, just before the event, I believe it would have cost $150 for a full pass.
They already have a huge list of exhibitors. Check it out! http://www.dfwmacna.com/vendors-sponsors/exhibitors/
